Mobile Pantry Bus

Feed The Wey

In a region where many of our neighbors face transportation barriers, getting to a pantry isn't always possible. We live in a largely car-dependent community, and for seniors, families with young children, or those without a vehicle, that distance can be the difference between a full plate and going without. We knew we had to close that gap—not just with a delivery, but with dignity.

The "Feed the Wey" Mobile Pantry Bus is our answer for the Weymouth community. More than a vehicle, this one-of-a-kind rolling pantry is a testament to community ingenuity and compassion. It was imagined and built from the ground up by a network of local partners, from students and town workers to the skilled welders who hesitated for only a moment before making the first cut into the side of a school bus. The result is more than a distribution channel; it's a welcoming, grocery store-like experience on wheels. As Senator Patrick O'Connor said, "When you meet people where they are, you give them more than food—you give them dignity."

HOW IT WORKS

This project combines innovative design with practical community support to redefine food access.

Ultimate Flexibility

The bus was designed to meet people where they are, overcoming the transportation hurdles that keep many from accessing nutritious food.

Customizable Inventory

We can pivot the bus's offerings based on the specific needs of the community we're serving, whether it's snacks for kids at the Teen Center or pantry staples for seniors at a community housing complex.

A DIGNIFIED EXPERIENCE

Vision became a reality through critical partnerships, most notably with the Town of Weymouth and Mayor Bob Hedlund's team, who secured the necessary ARPA funding to launch the project.

A Look Inside Our
Mission in Motion

Our Executive Director, Pam Denholm, gives a tour of our mobile pantry and shares the vision behind it. Learn why we need to be "bold" and "creative" to solve hunger, and how this bus provides a dignified, "grocery store-like experience" that meets our neighbors where they are.

The Impact

"With investments like this bus, and partnerships like these, Massachusetts can lead the nation in building a future where no one goes hungry."
