Breaking Down Silos

Building Up

Leaders

Leadership Academy

Food pantries are often run by passionate individuals who work in isolation, facing complex challenges on their own. We believe that the single most impactful thing we can do to strengthen regional food access is to bring these leaders together. Our Leadership Academy was created to do just that—to pull pantry leaders out of their silos and build a powerful, collaborative network of peers.

This program is more than a series of workshops; it’s a community. It provides a space for leaders to share solutions, learn from industry experts, and build lasting relationships with others who understand their work. As one past participant, Lisa Courtney, shared, the program makes you feel less like you’re "starting from scratch" and more like you’re "part of a community" working toward a common goal. This first-of-its-kind program is designed to shape mentors into the leaders who will carry this vital work forward.

"My biggest takeaway was the relationships that I was able to make ... we've since made a Facebook group so we can ask each other questions and we can rely on each other for information."

HOW IT WORKS

Our Leadership Academy is an adaptive coaching and skills-sharing program that connects pantry leaders with the expertise they need to thrive.

A group of people gathered in a food pantry, standing around a table filled with bread, baked goods, and vegetables. Some are listening to a speaker, while others are taking notes or photos.

An Adaptive Model

In response to urgent community needs following SNAP benefit cuts, the program has shifted from a four-month cohort to an intensive, one-day conference open to all food pantries.

Focus on Critical Skills

Each conference is designed to address critical weaknesses within pantries. This year’s focus is on essentials like board management and strategic planning, featuring experts in the non-profit sector.

A Convening of Peers

The program brings together pantry leaders from across the South Shore (14 communities in 2022 and 2023) to learn and collaborate.
